- Present your position on literacy, explaining what you believe about it, drawing from the readings that have influenced your thinking the most. That means you will make a claim about literacy and support that claim with sources. I would anticipate a minimum of 4 sources from our readings, including those involved in the Gee article on "Orality and Literacy" (i.e., Brice-Heath, Havelock, Street, etc). to provide some basis for your position.
Claim:
Literacy is simply the ability to read, write, speak, and learn; it refers to someone’s ability to learn, pertaining to many different subjects.
Overall, literacy and the way it is present in society, the wya in which people read write speak… changes. This is due to the ongoing presence of technology and its inventions. As we introduce more elements, tools, and comments to the world, we have to evolve to create new and accurate vocabulary to describe the new phenomenon. Literacy is non-monolithic.
